Soldier's Experiences
The letter talks about the terrifying the bombardment but the stench, mud and disease in the trenches. He was desperate to go home and seemed fearful that he would never go back home. The letter also says that he wanted to be with family and his young kids that were always in his mind. He felt as if he was going to be defeated because he had a hard time walking around. He was reported missing and is thought killed at the age of 35. He was also a part of different Battles but this was the longest one he had experienced. He was never found but was amongst the 34,785 soldiers that fought in the Battle. The letter was received to his wife a few days before he died. His wife carried around the letter for the rest of her life in her handbag.
